With the new Star Wars movie being made I know everyone including myself has been speculating about what stories from the expanded universe they are going to use. Well Lucasfilm has made a statement about the expanded universe:
“Lucas always made it clear that he was not beholden to the EU. He set the films he created as the canon. This includes the six Star Wars episodes, and the many hours of content he developed and produced in Star Wars: The Clone Wars. These stories are the immovable objects of Star Wars history, the characters and events to which all other tales must align.”
I agree with this and have always agreed with this, that what Lucas wrote is canon. Many of the EU authors agree as well since what he wrote has been incorporated into many of the novels, I am finding many instances of what Lucas created in The Legacy of the Force series that I am currently reading.
“In order to give maximum creative freedom to the filmmakers and also preserve an element of surprise and discovery for the audience, Star Wars Episodes VII-IX will not tell the same story told in the post-Return of the Jedi Expanded Universe. While the universe that readers knew is changing, it is not being discarded. Creators of new Star Wars entertainment have full access to the rich content of the Expanded Universe. For example, elements of the EU are included in Star Wars Rebels. The Inquisitor, the Imperial Security Bureau, and Sienar Fleet Systems are story elements in the new animated series, and all these ideas find their origins in roleplaying game material published in the 1980s.”
This could mean that some elements from the EU might be included into the film. What elements, I am not sure but there is a chance that some of our beloved character might not be included. That makes me sad because Jaina Solo is my favorite Star Wars character. I know many people were hoping to see Mara Jade who I will admit is an amazing character, the likely hood is that we will not be seeing her.
Since the new film will be dealing with life after Episode VI, Disney and Lucasfilms have reached a decision about how to handle things going forth.
“Now, with an exciting future filled with new cinematic installments of Star Wars, all aspects of Star Wars storytelling moving forward will be connected. Under Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy’s direction, the company for the first time ever has formed a story group to oversee and coordinate all Star Wars creative development.”
“We have an unprecedented slate of new Star Wars entertainment on the horizon,” said Kennedy. “We’re set to bring Star Wars back to the big screen, and continue the adventure through games, books, comics, and new formats that are just emerging. This future of interconnected storytelling will allow fans to explore this galaxy in deeper ways than ever before.”
Everything going forth will be uniformed, that does not mean they are getting rid of our beloved stories and characters, all of those novels will still be available, under a new legacy banner. If they choose not to use any of these characters in the new movie then we will not be seeing any new tales involving them. I don’t know about the rest of you but I am kind of hoping that they will decide to use the Skywalker/Solo family. I would love to see more from them, well I would love to see more from Jaina.
New canon stuff is coming and we will be able to check them out:
“On the screen, the first new canon to appear will be Star Wars Rebels. In print, the first new books to come from this creative collaboration include novels from Del Rey Books. First to be announced, John Jackson Miller is writing a novel that precedes the events of Star Wars Rebels and offers insight into a key character’s backstory, with input directly from executive producers Dave Filoni, Simon Kinberg, and Greg Weisman.”
What do you think about the EU probably not being used in the new Star Wars films, books, video games, etc.?
Here we are again for another episode of Agents of SHIELD, last week we found out the truth about Ward, I am still rather upset about that. The rest of Coulson’s team found an underground SHIELD bunker to stay at for now.
As any Sherlock fan knows it can sometimes be a really long wait between series, like a 2 year wait. I know I am dying for series 4, especially with how last season ended. Martin Freeman and Benedict Cumberbatch both have busy schedules so it has been hard finding time to film the next series. Freeman has teased about a possible one-off special happening:
“Mark Gatiss may beat me up, but there is an idea for this one-off special that’s such a good idea, and as I was listening to it, I thought, ‘We’ve just got to do this.’ And I don’t know when we are going to be able to do it, unfortunately. It’s a fantastic, really mouth-watering idea. But I really don’t know when we are going to get to do it.“
No word on when that might happen because again they both have really busy schedules. It is probably easier for them to film a one-off then a full 3 episode season. A special episode would help fill the gap between the series and make the wait not seem as long. At this time there is not word on when series 4 will be happening so we might be in for another 2 year wait.
Would you rather have a full series of Sherlock or would you be happy with a one-off special episode?
HBO and Amazon have reached a deal that will allow anyone to watch HBO Shows as long as they have an Amazon Prime account. Now everyone who doesn’t have HBO can watch many of the HBO favorites. There is a catch to this amazing offer, not all the shows will be available.
To start members will have access to all episodes of; The Sopranos, Deadwood, The Wire, Six Feet Under, Rome, Eastbown & Down, Enlightened, and Flight of the Concord. Subscribers will have select seasons of Boardwalk Empire, True Blood, and Extreme. Early episodes of Veep, Newsroom, and Girls will be available after they hit the three-year mark. This deal does not include True Detective or Game of Thrones. I know many of you are sad to hear that Game of Thrones will not be included.
By the end of the year HBO GO will be available on the Fire TV platform. That should mean all HBO shows will be available by the end of the year. Until HBO GO is available at the end of the year people are still going to have to borrow logins – I mean wait to see many of their favorite shows.
The HBO shows will be available starting May 21st.
Here we are after last week’s very explosive episode, the most important thing to remember it that Joffery is dead. This has definitely caused cheers across the world/realm. I think this can help prove that:
We broke news a few months ago about a possible Farscape movie in the works. Well I am happy to report that it will officially be happening. Rockne O’Bannon the shows creator and showrunner has officially confirmed this. TV.Com had this to report:
“Just a little bit of, maybe interesting, information to report. ;-p Texting me from WonderCon, a very good friend of mine (@PaulBurrows) just left the Showrunners Panel at [WonderCon]. A panel member, non other than Rockne O’Bannon, the co-creator ofWarehouse 13, Defiance, and Revolution… who was also Farscape‘s creator and showrunner – has indeed CONFIRMED a Farscape movie is happening.”
SpoilerTV followed up with this quote:
“Yeah, yeah it’s the worst kept secret…We’re far from production, but yeah, the first step is Justin [Monjo] working on a script for us. We’ll keep our fingers crossed.”
It was the worst kept secret because we all heard about it when the script was still in the initial stages.
As well know the new movie is supposed to follow John and Aeryn’s son when he is around the age of 19. Here is a new synopsis of the reboot:
“Set to follow the awesome comics written by our favorite Keith R.A. DeCandido, the film would follow John and Aeryn’s son, D’Argo (or Little D, as we will always refer to him). Because their baby was exhibiting a set of interesting powers that made him a magnet for galactic villains, we find that John and Aeryn hide their son on Earth to grow up. Now the kid is 19 and ready to go into space with his parents.”
I know I am super excited to hear that the Farscape movie is officially happening. I loved Farscape back in the day and I was sad to see it go off the air. I am super excited to hear that the reboot will be happening.
Is anyone else as excited for the Farscape movie as I am?
If any of you are like me you have been dying to take classes at Hogwarts. You have been waiting for that owl to drop off your letter. For someone from the school to come by and explain the wizarding world to you. Maybe your letter got lost there are other owls out there like Errol. Maybe during the first wizarding war some of the documents got lost. Whatever reason any us have come up with as to why we have not gotten our letter. Well we finally have a chance to attend Hogwarts and prove that we are not Muggles.
Some fans of Harry Potter have created a website where you ca take Hogwarts classes it is called Hogwarts is Here. They will send you a letter telling you that you have been accepted into the Hogwarts. You then choose what house you want to be in, I choose Ravenclaw because that is where Pottermore sorted me.
After that you than buy your books from Florish and Botts. Don’t worry they give you the Gallons, Sickles, Knuts you need to buy everything. The site is completely free unless you pay for the upgraded account. Then once you have your books you can start enrolling in classes, each course is only 9 weeks long. I am currently only taking Defense Against the Dark Arts. I am sure you can take more than one course at a time, but I know I don’t have the time to devote anything more than that. They are very lenient to first years, if you do not get an assignment done on time it is alright. I am actually starting lessons about 3 weeks late.
I will let you know how the course goes and how others courses go. I hope that some of you join me in Ravenclaw house, which is doing the best of all the houses, just saying.
We all know that not every scene makes it into a movie, but it is rare for an actor to ask for a scene to be cut from the movie. That is exactly what happened in Captain America: Winter Solider, Scarlett Johansson thought that one of her scenes dragged so she asked for it to be cut out.
“Weirdly it was Scarlett who said after she saw the movie, she loved the film, but she goes “It just seemed there was a bit of a drag in that section,” and she goes “This is crazy for me to recommend this, but do we really need that scene between me and Sam? Is there really narrative content in that scene? You could still get the same arc out of my character without it,” she actually recommended cutting her own scene.”
The scene in question is a moment between Black Widow and Nick Fury, where Black Widow takes issue with that fact that she was not included on Fury being alive.
“It’s a nice moment for her, it’s a reflective moment where she goes “My god, this is the world that I’ve sort of invited myself into.” And Fury says “I couldn’t, I had to keep the circle small,” so i think its a very reflective moment for her. A short scene but it’s a great scene.”
Johansson thought you could still get her character growth without that scene, I have seen Captain America and yes I got her growth without the scene. Might that scene have confirmed her growth of course, it was not needed like Johansson thought. I guess we will have to wait until the DVD comes out to see the exact scene.
The Sinister Six movie might not be a tradition villain team up. Ever since Sony announced that they are going to make more Spider-Man related movies, everyone has been wondering how they were going to do a Sinister Six movie.
“When you translate comic to film the word ‘classic’ means the first fifty issues. Because after that we all made changes; changes that had to do with science-fiction turning into science. I think just the need to move this world forward.”
“So, of course we’ll make adaptations about these guys and what was their motivations because many of them have multiple motivations. It depends, is it ultimate Spider-Man? Is it Spider-Man? Is it some three-piece issue that takes them to space? We have a bigger responsibility to represent the character of the villain as it was conceived, because that way it will survive the test of time. All the rest… that’s a movie. What an opportunity to make — can you imagine seeing Paul Giamatti in a leather suit? I think they would have killed us. They gave us a hard time with the Lizard.”
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 already has Rhino, Electro and Green Goblin in movie. We have been teased with Doc Ock’s arms and Vulture’s wings. Granted the original team was Doc Ock, Vulture, Electro, Mysterio, Sandman, and Kraven the Hunter. Members of the team have changed over time. If they are going with a slightly different approach then they might change who the members of the team are.
Personally I don’t think it will make a difference if they don’t use all the original members and change some of them up. It would make more sense for them to use the villains that they have already established to continue the story line. Us fans we do get crazy about these things and wanting everything to be true to the original story, I have been like that before. I know there will be fans out there who want the original group of villains.
Should they stick with the original members or will changing some of the members of the Sinister Six not really matter?
