The Farscape Movie is Officially Happening

We broke news a few months ago about a possible Farscape movie in the works.  Well I am happy to report that it will officially be happening.  Rockne O’Bannon the shows creator and showrunner has officially confirmed this. TV.Com had this to report:

“Just a little bit of, maybe interesting, information to report. ;-p Texting me from WonderCon, a very good friend of mine (@PaulBurrows) just left the Showrunners Panel at [WonderCon]. A panel member, non other than Rockne O’Bannon, the co-creator ofWarehouse 13, Defiance, and Revolution… who was also Farscape‘s creator and showrunner – has indeed CONFIRMED a Farscape movie is happening.”

SpoilerTV followed up with this quote:

“Yeah, yeah it’s the worst kept secret…We’re far from production, but yeah, the first step is Justin [Monjo] working on a script for us. We’ll keep our fingers crossed.”

It was the worst kept secret because we all heard about it when the script was still in the initial stages.

As well know the new movie is supposed to follow John and Aeryn’s son when he is around the age of 19.  Here is a new synopsis of the reboot:

“Set to follow the awesome comics written by our favorite Keith R.A. DeCandido, the film would follow John and Aeryn’s son, D’Argo (or Little D, as we will always refer to him). Because their baby was exhibiting a set of interesting powers that made him a magnet for galactic villains, we find that John and Aeryn hide their son on Earth to grow up. Now the kid is 19 and ready to go into space with his parents.”

I know I am super excited to hear that the Farscape movie is officially happening.  I loved Farscape back in the day and I was sad to see it go off the air.  I am super excited to hear that the reboot will be happening.

Is anyone else as excited for the Farscape movie as I am?

Possible Farscape movie in the works

The current rumor going around is that Farscape might be coming back.  There seems to be some truth to this rumor because Justin Monjo is supposedly working on the script.  Monjo wrote a few of the Farscape episode.  Brian Henson is supposed to be directing it.

The prolific Monjo is also writing the screenplay for Farscape, a movie spin-off of the sci-fi series that ran on the Nine Network and the Sci-Fi Channel in the US, for Jim Henson Productions, to be directed by Brian Henson.

Hearing that makes me very excited because I loved watching Farscape and I remember watch the Peacekeeper Wars just so I could find out how it ended.  I would love for them to bring this back as a show or a movie.  It had a good storyline, amazing costumes and make-up, great special effects, and of course Henson muppets aka Rygel.

“In the finale, the protagonists, American astronaut John Crichton (Ben Browder) and peacekeeper Aeryn Sun (Claudia Black) got married and had a baby. In the movie, it’s revealed the boy had special powers which made him the target of the villainous aliens so his parents hide him on Earth. The plot follows the kid at the age of 19 when his whereabouts have been discovered and he rejoins his parents on their spaceship.”

It looks like the new movie will center on Crichton and Aeryn’s son.  That could only mean that Ben Brower and Claudia Black are reprising their roles.

I hope that also means that we will be seeing Moya and Pilot again.  Naturally we will want to see anyone else they get to reprise their roles.

It will be filmed in Australia, which is where Farscape was mostly filmed.  I hope that means we will be seeing some of the locations that we know and love again.

I know I will be tuning in to watch this when it comes out.
