Oscar Isaac (“Inside Llewyn Davis”) has been cast as the titular villain for the next installment of Fox’s X-Men movie franchise.
No word on how the actor will portray him, yet. That is, whether he’lll appear human, be under heavy make-up, or pretty much just be a CG creation a la Josh Brolin’s Thanos. “X-Men: Apocalypse” is almost certainly going to revolve around the villain of the same name, and many have been left to speculate that the movie will be heavily based on the 1995 comics storyline “Age of Apocalypse,” wherein the villain is the ruler of a world where mutants have risen up to overthrow and enslave humans.
“X-Men: Apocalypse” hits theatres on May 18th, 2016, and will pick up some time in the 1980s,
I have to say Amazing X-Men is my fav of all the series I am reading, they had some great writers and artists. In the last issue, Wolverine just goes off to Canada to visit Vindicator. Wolverine finds out that James is missing, while searching for him Wolverine comes across Wendigos.
We are back for another exciting issue of the Amazing X-Men in Canada. Last issues more of Alpha Flight cam to join the X-Men while the Avengers are guarding the US/Canada border. Oh, Wolverine is a Wendigo now.
We have the first Amazing X-Men Annual issue, which has Storm on the cover so it looks like it will be a Storm heavy issue, which makes me happy since I love Storm.
Back for another exciting adventure with the X-Men since this is the first of five issues. I would recap last week’s issue but really it was a filler issue that probably has no bearing on the upcoming miniseries so I won’t even bother.
After a long hiatus– and because I managed to break every single nail repeatedly for several weeks Ina row– Manicure Mondays are back at TFP!
This week, we do a little mutant magic and have a set of nails inspired by probably the best known of the X-Men, Wolverine!
Modeled after his classic blue and yellow costume, of course.
Start out with a nice bright yellow, painting every nail the same colour.
Now, for the designs, you really have got quite a few options here. And all that you’ll need is a blue nail polish pen.
For the first nail, a simple set of three thin lines at an angle to represent his trademarked adamantium claws.
For the second, a set of three triangular marks like those on his costume over the obliques.
Fill them in…
For the third, a double-walled yellow knockout of a triangle surrounded by a flood of blue, like it looks coming up and over his collarbones.
For the fourth, the pinkie, an easy set of simple, tapered lines, like the ones that run down the front of his torso.
And, last, the thumb, with artwork inspired by his mask.
Of course, you don’t have to stick to these five designs by any means. Throw in an “X” symbol in a circle. Reverse some of the colours. Use the brown and burnt orange palette or black and yellow or black and grey to reflect some of his other costumes. Just have fun with it!
Let us know if you try any of our Monday Manicures for yourselves! We love comments and unique takes on our stuff!
And, of course, suggestions for future Manicure Mondays are always welcomed.
Until next week!
Seen Days of Future Past? Grateful for Anna Paquin being mostly cut from the film but still a slave to morbid curiosity and therefore curious as to what exactly her story would have been? Well, here’s a look into what that might have entailed.
According to screenwriter Simon Kinberg:
“The biggest chunk we took out of the film from first cut to final cut was the Rogue plot. And that was the sub-plot that has now been well-publicized, but that I created, not actually to bring Rogue into the movie, though that was a wonderful consequence, but more that I wanted to have—and this was in the early script phase—I wanted a mission for old Charles and old Erik, for Magneto and Xavier to go off on a mission together.”
This would have amounted to roughly 10 additional minutes of screen time. Plus, it featured more screen time for older Professor X and Magneto, going on a solo mission of their own, a little road trip that had something to do with Rogue. Awesome, right? Except for maybe not…
“Just to see what that would look like. I mean, truly, seriously, it was like, ‘What would it be like to have Patrick and Ian on a road trip together?’ And that was kind of, you know, it got condensed as I wrote it and then when we shot it, but it was just a sub-plot. It was a perfectly good sub-plot and people will see it one day, and Anna was great in it and it was well-directed; it just didn’t serve the overall story. And it didn’t, it never did, it was created outside the core story. As a result, when you watched the movie, you were like, ‘Why are we on this detour, on a movie that already has two time periods, two types of Sentinels, 10-12 main characters, just as a lark?’ And so it ended up getting cut.”
Above, I’ve got a screengrab taken from one of the first trailers. It shows Magneto and Rogue and some dude supporting her, probably Ice Man. So, really, it looks like this is a whole damsel-saving deal and, frankly, if it features more of Rogue being useless, then I’m alright with her having been almost entirely cut from the film.
Guess we’ll have to wait for the DVD/Blu-Ray to see what exactly it all entailed. Be sure that we’re going to revisit this scene then.
See you there!
Last issue we found out why the Phoenix Corp was sending out the Phoenix symbol onto all electronic devices. Mainly it was to get Quentin to come by the Phoenix Corp. Apparently, they might also be planning on killing Evan, life is hard being an Apocalypse clone.
I know this review is late, but life was crazy – C2E2 and finishing Camp NaNo. In last, issue Nightcrawler managed to beat his father and trap him on Earth. Nightcrawler is also back from the dead but in order for him to come back it cost he had to give up his soul.
