With the heaps of season and series premieres that accompany each fall, one show which I’ve been waiting for has been “Once Upon a Time.” I watch this show and treat it as something of a guilty pleasure; I don’t particularly enjoy it, it’s really not all that good, but I watch it weekly all the same, in the hopes that something really interesting will happen. The show’s creators, in an effort to make fans squee/to cash in on Disney’s biggest singular success in recent years, has hopped onto the “Frozen” bandwagon.
Naturally, I tuned in to watch what they would do with, apparently, everyone’s favourite sister duo.
(Spoilers after the bump.)
Casting news for OUaT broke recently, giving us the identitiies of the folks playing our favourite sisters from Arendelle and their Royal Ice Harvester and Deliverer.
Kristoff will be played by Scott Michael Foster, aged 29 and known for “Greek” and as a recurring character on “Chasing Life.”
The newest Time Lord to come to screens in the new series of the beloved BBC show “Doctor Who” is Peter Capaldi. Capaldi’s casting was met with skepticism by fans who were rallying for the first ever female Doctor, or for a person of colour to be cast in the role. Alas, another white male was cast in the role.
But let’s face it, odds are fans will come to love him in time.
No doubt hoping to speed up the process of that acceptance, the BBC is putting Capaldi and on-screen companion Jenna Coleman (and, in some cities, head writer and executive producer Steven Moffat) will be traveling the globe to promote the new season, which airs in August on BBC America.
I’m back after a brief hiatus, life can get crazy. While not much from last episode affects this one, we should mention how Sansa learned something in King’s Landing and lied for Littlefinger. Our dear favorite Prince Oberyn was killed by The Mountain :(. (Should warn that this recap with contain violent/graphic images).
So… I recently Netflixed this series. I caught up to the show just in time for the season finale. And I have a problem.
And I’ve had this problem from the start.
So, no, I’m not going to talk about that little teaser at the end and the character they’re introducing next season. Because, really, until I see exactly what they do with her, I give zero fucks.
And I’m not going to talk about how positively irritating all this shit about Snow White and Charming and they’re star-crossed yet true love thing is. WE GET IT. They love each other. It took them a long time to get to that point. Do we have to keep having flashbacks and time travel and just basically revisit storylines that already super old and this show is only a few seasons in?!
Last week’s episode we found out who killed Joffery and watched Margaery attempt to seduce Tommen based on what her grandmother said. Also Jaime sent Brienne on a quest find Sansa with Podrick. Bran is kidnapped at Craster’s Keep and Jon is on his way there to kill the traitors of the Knight’s Watch.
Fox has released the first official image of the Penguin. From this image I can see some of the Penguin, he has the pointed nose and the bow tie. Obviously we cannot see an umbrella, from the on set images I did not see one there, but maybe the umbrella comes later. What I do know is that I did not see webbed hands from the on set pics, I am wondering about that.
Fox has also released an official description for the Penguin:
”Oswald Cobblepot/aka The Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor – The Walking Dead, Another Earth, Accepted) has the brains of a chess grandmaster and the morals of a jackal. A low-level psychopath for gangster Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith), he hides his sadistic lust for power behind an exquisitely polite demeanor.”
While I am excited for the show and like the way most everyone else looks, I am just not feeling the Penguin. Unless something is going to happen to make him more penguin, I just don’t fully see it. I do understand going for the realistic approach, but it’s the Penguin, he is not supposed to be realistic looking. He is supposed to be a deformed, that does happen in real life. I guess we are just going to have to wait and see.
What do you think of the Penguin’s look?
Fox has released more images from the set of Gotham. We have another image of Selina Kyle, this time with a cat.
I knew they were going to have to show her with a cat or cats at some point, I just did not expect them to do it with release photos. I am happy to see this image, Bicondova claims to be a lover of cats, so that will be a great asset to her.
The next set of photos we have are the infamous death of Thomas and Martha Wayne.
While I am happy we got to see a photo of him with the parents, I think the first one with them walking or one with him crying over the dead bodies would have been enough. The photo of the parents falling and the last one with them on the ground just do not do the scene or story justice. If you are person who lives under a rock or really young you might not know how Bruce’s parents die. In these stills it does nothing to explain why Bruce was left alive. In the last still it looks like the shooter is walking away. I was always under the impression the shooter got spooked and ran away that is why Bruce was left alive. Maybe they are going with a different approach or maybe the stills are doing a bad job of showing the shooter running away. I guess we will have to wait and see once the show airs.
We also have the first photo of Sean Pertwee as Alfred Pennyworth
I like his look, this is what I would expect an English butler to look like. I am just waiting to see what approach he will take – will he be stiff or friendly. Will he act like a traditional butler or will he act like someone who has raised Bruce from infancy?
What do you think of these new set photos?
CW’s The Flash has added another character to the show; Patrick Sabongui will be playing Captain David Singh. Captain Singh is the director of the Central City crime lab, which is where Barry Allen works. In the comics, Captain Singh is not a huge fan of Barry Allen; the Captain was forced to hire Barry Allen. The role looks to be a potentially occurring one, if the series is picked up. It look like we might be seeing Sabongui’s character in pilot episode.
NBC has released the first picture of Matt Ryan as Constantine, based off the picture it looks like they are trying to keep to the original source material.
“I’ve been a fan of John Constantine since he was first introduced in 1985, Goyer said in a statement released with the image. “This Constantine, envisioned by Neil Marshall and embodied by Matt Ryan, looks like he sprang directly from the comics’ covers. Fans old and new are going to be in for a treat.”
Whenever I hear that someone in charge of the movie is a fan of the comic it always makes me happy. Usually they will do their best to keep as close to the original source material as possible. They are still negotiating about the signature cigarette that Constantine is known for. Unfortunately, smoking is one of those things they are trying to cut out of network TV these days. With any luck they will be able to at least come to a compromise on the topic.
