Zack Snyder had teased an image of the Batmobile yesterday saying that he might unveil it today. Snyder unveiled the Batmobile with Ben Affleck standing next to it in the Batman suit.
Couple that with a teaser-ish image the director Tweeted out yesterday, showing the Batmobile from the back…
The images look interesting, if nothing else.
The Batmobile looks like a sporty tumbler, so I see Nolan’s influence is still a thing. There might even be a touch of “Batman: The Animated Series” in there, from the look of the hood and the windshield. While Affleck looks good in the suit, I still have my skepticism about him pulling off the role. Of course, one image isn’t enough to sway any of the Fangirls to Team BatFleck. We’l have to at least wait for some trailers for that.
But, hey, no Bat Nipples in sight!
What do you think of this unveiling of Batman and the Batmobile?
Even though Alan Horn refused to tell us anything about that casting for Star Wars: Episode VII we have found out that Peter Mayhew who plays Chewbacca will be returning. Carrie Fisher is confirmed to be coming back, no official word on Harrison Ford or Mark Hamill but it has been reported they will be returning. There is no way to have Chewbacca without Han Solo so Ford would have to be returning.
If Chewbacca is going to be in the story that they would be choosing a story line before the Yuuzhan Vong war or the Yuuzhan Vong war story line itself. If they are choosing an extended universe story line then the Yuuzhan Vong war would be a good one because it can lead into the Darth Cadeous story line. Both story lines feature the Solo/Skywalker family.
I guess we will see exactly what they are planning on doing with the movie as more news and trailers come out. I know I am happy to hear that Chewbacca will be returning.
Who else is excited to hear Chewbacca will be returning?
Alan Horn who is the Chairman for Disney Studios has confirmed that shooting for Star Wars: Episode VII has begun. He also mentioned that casting is almost complete but not fully done. He would not release any of the casts names.
All we know is that Adam Driver will be playing a villain and still no word on if they have made a choice out of Ed Speleers, John Boyega, Jesse Plemons, Matthew James Thomas and Ray Fisher for the lead role.
Basically Horn would say nothing but “patience you must have.” I guess we have to have patience while we wait to find out what is going with Star Wars: Episode VII.
Three people have been cast in the upcoming Man of Steel sequel; Holly Hunter, Callan Mulvey (300: Rise of the Empire), and Tao Okamoto (The Wolverine).
Snyder had this to say about these casting choices:
“Holly has always been one of my favorite actresses; she has immense talent and is always captivating on screen,” Snyder said via press release. “I had an opportunity to meet her a while back and knew instantly that I had to work with her, so as we began writing the script I made sure to create a role specifically for her. I just had the good fortune to work with Callan on ‘300: Rise of an Empire’ and was very impressed with his incredible talent. He’s a fantastic actor and I’m looking forward to having the chance to work with him again. And, quite simply, Tao is a striking presence whose beauty is aptly rivaled by her amazing abilities as an actress. I’m really excited to have her joining us on this adventure.”
No news about who they will be playing but they are supposed to be playing original characters. I guess well will not be seeing them play any iconic favorites.
Also do not expect to see Russell Crowe reprising his role in the Man of Steel sequel. Crowe had this to say, “I don’t think they’re going to use me again,…I think they’re jumping onto a different stream. … They’re going with the different superhero worlds colliding.”
I will not lie I am happy that we will not be seeing Jor-El again, because well there was too much of him in the first movie. I have always been a Pa Kent fan so I would have liked to have seen more of that character. Besides I don’t know about anyone else but Jor-El’s all-knowing thing was getting kind of annoying.
Are you happy that Snyder is creating some original characters or would you rather he use lore characters?
X-Men: Apocalypse will be the third film in this X-Men prequel series. X-Men: Apocalypse will be a sequel to First Class, not a follow-up to Days of Future Past. The movie will take place in the 80’s and will obviously be taking cues from the comic series Age of Apocalypse.
Singer is saying that we might be seeing Gambit and a young Nightcrawler in X-Men: Apocalypse. I wonder if that means if we will see Taylor Kitsch reprise his role as Gambit. I will admit, I liked his Gambit; he could bring more life to the character.
Would you want to see Gambit and a young Nightcrawler in the next X-Men movie?
Gal Gadot who will be playing Wonder Woman in the upcoming Batman vs Superman movie, has signed a three picture deal with Warner Brothers.
They have confirmed it will include a Justice League movie and a Wonder Woman standalone movie. It looks like we will be seeing more of Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman in the future.
Michael Wilkinson has been asked about the costume design for the Wonder Woman in the upcoming Batman vs. Superman movie.
“It’s so important to get her right. She really deserves to be presented on-screen in her full glory. So what I do is I look at the history of how the character has been presented on the big-screen, and the small-screen, and in comic books, and graphic novels. We process it all. Then we kind of put that aside and work out what is right for our film, for the cinematic universe that our director Zack Snyder is putting together. We try and create a Wonder Woman that’s relevant for today’s audiences.”
This definitely helps confirm that they are planning on doing a Justice League movie because there would be no other reason to get her costume right otherwise. I am happy that they are looking at all of her incarnations in order to create the costume. I know many of the fans are trying to figure out what costume they are going to use for her.
Wilkinson was asked if it was realistic to have her fighting crime in her typical costume.
“Absolutely! I mean, you just have to look at the gladiators from ancient Rome, they did their thing in little loin clothes and a shield….It works for Thor, it works for 300, so let’s see what happens.”
I am not sure how I feel about that comment, while I appreciate that he is not trying to limit Wonder Woman because she is a girl. The costumes and characters that are mentioned are all male. At the same time Wonder Woman is female and let’s be fair women are looked at differently when it comes to fashion. While those costumes, work for the male characters it might not work for a female character.
I guess we will have to wait and see.
Zach Snyder has been in the new a lot lately, first with his response to Joel Silver’s comment about his version of Watchmen being a slave a to the comic and how Terry Gilliams version would have been better. Of course Snyder had a response to that:
“….if you read the Gilliam ending, it’s completely insane…. So, honestly, I made “Watchmen” for myself. It’s probably my favorite movie that I’ve made. And I love the graphic novel and I really love everything about the movie. I love the style. I just love the movie and it was a labor of love. And I made it because I knew that the studio would have made the movie anyway and they would have made it crazy. So, finally I made it to save it from the Terry Gilliams of this world.”
This comment has elicited a few different responses from people but mostly people are not happy with the comment. It does not solely have to do with that fact that he thinks it is his job to save us from the Terry Gilliams of the world. It more so has to do with that fact that Snyder made the movie because he knew the studio would do it no matter what. In that sense, he is telling us that he made the movie to basically be the lesser of two evils. I really wish Snyder had not said that at all in his comment, before that he had actually said that he enjoys the comic and that this is his favorite movie that he has ever made.
Now only days later Snyder is back in the news talking about his thoughts on the Batman vs Superman movie.
“[The movie] literally takes the Man of Steel and Batman universes and explodes them. You’re not as tied to the mythology. In Man of Steel, we had to create an origin story, a mythology, and there’s a lot of energy into that, which we love doing. Don’t get me wrong. But when you think about how fun it is too — now that you’ve got these characters — to now let ‘em loose. That’s fun!”
I am not really sure how to take this because is almost seems like Snyder is going with a completely new story. At San Diego Comic Con, they had been quoting from Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns.
That led many fans to believe that they would be taking material or at least be influenced by that storyline. I am not sure how fans are going to react to the possibility that he might be doing something completely different. While I do appreciate an original story and idea when it comes to iconic characters it does sometimes help to take something from the original source material, otherwise we have another Catwoman movie.
“You know, Superman and Batman in the movies have never existed in the same frame together. So it’s an interesting historical thing. We were just testing the suits, right? The new Batsuit and the Superman suit. It wasn’t even with the actors, right? It was just to see ‘em. I was standing there, they were standing next to each other. And I was like, “Guys, someone take a picture! This has never happened before.” We slightly dork out. Like, “Are you kidding me?!”
I will say this I am happy to hear that he is excited about the movie. While many of us might be skeptical about the costumes and the casting, it is refreshing to see that Snyder is excited about his movie. Speaking of casting, Snyder give a response to fan backlash about casting Ben Affleck, Gal Godot, and Jesse Eisenberg in the movie.
“There are two ways to think about it. We know the material. Unfortunately, the fans don’t know the material. So, we’re casting according to what’s happening in the script. And we’re hoping that leads to enough originality, enough perspective on what we’re doing that you get something fresh and exciting. I understand the canon. I’m not crazy. I know what these characters need from a mythological standpoint.”
I will give Snyder this; we don’t know the story or how he plans to make the movie. As fans, we know the canon, the lore, and the characters. From that standpoint, we just cannot see how these actors will fit into these iconic characters.
Filming for the movie is supposed to begin this year, so more information should begin coming out about the movie. Here is to hoping for some leaked pictures that will help either confirm or contradict some of the fan outrage.
